the story behind the mat
Ballet has been a part of my life since the day I could walk. I left school at the age of 16 to pursue a career in classical ballet and contemporary dance. To strengthen and condition my body for the harsh demands of an elite dancer, I began practicing Pilates at the age of 12. Working with some of the greatest teachers and mentors in the southern hemisphere taught me to love, respect, and care for my body.
After my dance career ended, pilates continued to be my connection to my body and keep me fit, regardless of where I was in the world. My trips home every year to Australia have always been simultaneous with visiting my favourite pilates studios because it simply wasn’t offered in Germany. Talking with a dear friend after class one day, she inspired me to create the exact thing I was searching for, which is when I decided to become a Pilates instructor. The knowledge I have gained through spending my life in the studio was something that I was inspired to pass on to others.
Pilates trains the body as an integrated whole, focusing on core, lower body, and upper body strength as well as flexibility and posture. It is one of the most transformative practices that you can do for your body while creating sustainable and lasting change. My focus is on making the most of your workout by placing priority on correct posture and form. I feel there isn’t enough importance placed on technique, which can be the most effective tool for any workout.
Pilates is inclusive. Having a 'pilates body' means having a body - duh! But with your pilates body, you will feel stronger, longer, and leaner. It can also create better posture and an increase in flexibility. With thousands of possible exercises and modifications, Pilates workouts can be tailored to individual needs - that includes for men, women during pregnancy or post-natal, as well as those recovering from injury.
I want my clients to set a new standard for their body and what it deserves - to treat it with love and care because confidence and beauty start from within.
